We have very exciting news this week. Secretary Penny Pritzker received the first ever Commercial Diplomat of the Year Award from Foreign Policy Magazine. This honor recognizes a leader in business or government who effectively promotes their nation’s interest globally via commercial and economic diplomacy. Secretary Pritzker noted that the award reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire Commerce Team, without whom we would not be able to carry out the Department’s mission every day.
Also this week, Secretary Pritzker spoke at the Center for American Progress where she discussed the choices needed to create a path forward for long term value and prosperity to our economy. She also spoke at the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) Summit, highlighting the key role American communities are playing in the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing. Next week, Secretary Pritzker will travel to Germany and Ukraine as a continuation of the Obama Administration’s sustained commitment to supporting and expanding commercial diplomacy.
Around the Department: MBDA participated in Minority Enterprise Development Week; NOAA launched the FishWatch mobile website; Census celebrated World Statistics Day; and NOAA discussed 2015 being the warmest year on record in a recent New York Times blog post.
I hope you have a great weekend, and let’s continue to keep America Open for Business.
All the best,
Chief of Staff
