BEIJING, October 26 (ChinaMil) — General Zhang Yang, member of China’s Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department (GPD) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, met with the Japanese “China Political and Economic Talkfest” delegation headed by Akaboshi Keiji, former chief of staff of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, in Beijing on October 23, 2015.
Zhang Yang said that the speech delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the meeting to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War conveys the steadfast determination of the Chinese people to bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and open up the future.
China and Japan are neighbors, and the stable and healthy development of Sino-Japanese relations conforms with the fundamental interests of the two peoples, and helps maintain peace, stability and development of the region, Gen. Zhang continued.
He stressed that currently, both China and Japan have made steps forward towards improving the bilateral relations, and the Japanese government is expected to face up to history, make sincere and in-depth reflection on its past doings and honor its commitments, so as to win confidence of both its Asian neighbors and the international community with concrete deeds and promote sustainable improvement of its relations with China.
Gen. Zhang hoped the visiting Japanese guests to give full play to their social influence and contribute more to the China-Japan friendship. He also briefed the guests about China’s peaceful development and national defense policy that is defensive in nature, etc.
Akaboshi Keiji said that Japan and China share many common interests and improving Japan-China relations is of significance not only for the two countries but also for peace and stability of the region.
Both countries should overcome differences through dialogue and negotiation, and the “China Political and Economic Talkfest” is willing to play a positive role in the improvement and development of the bilateral relations, Akaboshi Keiji added.
The delegation visited China at the invitation of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC).
