NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow and Ambassadors from the North Atlantic Council paid a working visit on Friday (30 October 2015) to the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in Uedem, Germany.
The Council was welcomed by the Commander of the Allied Air Command, General Frank Gorenc and by the CAOC Commander Lieutenant General Joachim Wundrak.
The centre at Uedem is responsible for monitoring NATO airspace north of the Alps. This includes control of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. Hungary currently leads the mission with support from Germany. Their task is to ensure safe skies over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. NATO’s other Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) is located in Torrejon, Spain.
