INTERNATIONAL ACTION AGAINST DD4BC CYBERCRIMINAL GROUP

On 15 and 16 December, law enforcement agencies from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina[1], Germany[2] and the United Kingdom[3] joined forces with Europol in the framework of an operation against the cybercriminal group DD4BC (Distributed Denial of Service – DDoS – for Bitcoin).

EUROPOL HOSTS A JOINT MEETING ON COUNTERTERRORISM

Europol is pleased to host today a joint meeting of the Foreign Terrorist Fighters Working Groups of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL. Together with its counterparts from the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has invited senior representatives to this meeting which focuses on measures and actions that can be taken to improve the implementation of plans to tackle foreign terrorist fighters.

INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL GROUP BEHIND ATM MALWARE ATTACKS DISMANTLED

The Romanian National Police and the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crimes and Terrorism (DIICOT), assisted by Europol and Eurojust as well as a number of European Law Enforcement authorities, disrupted an international criminal group responsible for ATM malware attacks. This operation, one of the first in Europe against this kind of threat, resulted in multiple house searches in Romania and the Republic of Moldova and the final arrest of 8 individuals.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE EC3 ADVISORY BOARDS

In 2013 the Programme Board of Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) identified the need for establishing Advisory Groups to provide guidance to EC3. In 2013, Advisory Groups were established in the areas of Financial Services and Internet Security. The members were recruited from experts operating in these respective sectors. A number of seats are available in both groups due to the termination of the appointment of some members and an expansion of the number of members to 25.

EUNAVFOR MED OPERATION SOPHIA AND EUROPOL DETERMINED TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL COOPERATION

Today, Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino, EU Operation Commander of the European Union military operation in the southern central Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR MED), operation Sophia, and Rob Wainwright, Director of Europol, signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance bilateral cooperation. Europol and EUNAVFOR MED are determined to strengthen direct bilateral cooperation to identify and dismantle criminal groups involved in migrant smuggling in the southern central Mediterranean.

2015 VGT CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION ENVIRONMENTAL SCAN

Today sees the release of the latest VGT Child Sexual Exploitation Environmental Scan produced by Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) which identifies the methods used by offenders to solicit their victims and avoid detection when sharing abuse material online, as well as challenges faced by law enforcement in combating these crimes.

HUGE SEIZURES OF 190 TONNES OF COUNTERFEIT PESTICIDES

18 December 2015

Europol have supported the massive 12-day international operation Silver Axe, during which 350 inspections of containers were carried out at major ports and airports in seven countries. As a result, law enforcement agencies from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands discovered 190 tonnes of illegal or counterfeit pesticides.

One hundred cases of infringements[1] were also detected, which led to the initiation of further investigations by the authorities, seven of which are still ongoing.
