Ambassador Thomas Shannon, Counselor of the U.S. Department of State, will travel to Tokyo, Japan January 22 – 27 for meetings with the political directors of the G7 (Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, United States, Japan, Canada plus the European Union) to discuss various country specific and thematic topics as they prepare for the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting hosted by Japan later in the year. While in Tokyo, Ambassador Shannon will meet with a wide range of Japanese leaders to discuss regional security, the U.S.-Japan Alliance, our common approach to global challenges, and other bilateral issues.
Ambassador Shannon will then travel to Seoul, Republic of Korea January 27-28 where he will visit the Demilitarized Zone and hold bilateral meetings with Korean officials on the U.S.-Korea Alliance, our shared global priorities, and response to recent North Korean provocations.
On January 28, Ambassador Shannon will hold consultations with leaders of the United States Pacific Command in Honolulu.
Ambassador Shannon will return to Washington, D.C. on January 29.
