DEVESELU, Romania – Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Curtis M. Scaparrotti, visited troops in Romania and Ukraine from November 22 to 23 as part of a holiday tour.
General Scaparrotti met with troops at the Naval Support Facility in Deveslu and at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania, where he highlighted the importance of the military members contribution to NATO’s continued commitment to stability. He then went on to Ukraine to the International Peacekeeping and Security Center near Yavoriv.
“We’re living in a world that’s evolving,” said General Scaparrotti. “We’re working in a Europe that’s changing everyday and so we have to be agile, we have to be adaptive,” he added.
During the visits, General Scaparrotti took time to answer questions during several all-hands calls, participate in a reenlistment and promotion ceremony and share several meals with service members during which he expressed appreciation and delivered a special holiday message.
“Thank you all for what you do. Whether you’re first to fight or first to flight,” said General Scaparrotti. ” As you go into the holidays I appreciate the fact that you are here and not with your families. I know you are going to miss your families. I always did too but my army family was important and I’ve got good memories of every one of my deployments and I’ll ask you to do the same. Take care of each other and take a little time to refresh yourself during the holiday season.”
