The SITREP: DoD Activates for Hurricane Harvey Support

From the military services and around the DoD, here’s your SITREP for Thursday, August 31, 2017.
- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott activates entire Texas National Guard for hurricane relief efforts along the Gulf coast.
- Amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge and dock landing ship USS Oak Hill ordered to get underway from their Norfolk, Va. homeports to support federal, state and local authorities ongoing relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
- Airmen from the 48th Rescue Squadron responded to recovery operations for Hurricane Harvey, arriving at Easterwood Airfield, College Station, Texas, with approximately 20 members this week.
- Approximately 690 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, embarked aboard USS Kearsarge as part of prudent preparatory measures in anticipation of future tasking to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
