NATO Secretary General visits Skopje

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wrapped up a two-day visit to Skopje on Thursday (6 September 2018), which focused on the country’s path toward NATO membership. At the Brussels Summit in July, Allied leaders decided to invite the government in Skopje to begin accession talks with the Alliance, which have now begun.

In Skopje, Mr. Stoltenberg met the President, Mr. Gjorge Ivanov, the President of the Government, Mr. Zoran Zaev, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Ms. Radmila Šekerinska, the President of the Parliament, Mr. Talat Xhaferi and other high level officials.

The Secretary General also visited the Stajkovci village – where, in 2016, soldiers and equipment from NATO’s mission KFOR helped to clear roads and move debris following devastating floods.
