Romanian Minister of National Defence at the Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council and the Steering Committee of the European Defence Agency

The Minister of National Defence, Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, will participate on Friday, 20 November, in a videoconference system, in the Meeting of the Council for Foreign Affairs (EAC) in the format of the defence ministers of the Member States of the European Union, respectively in the work of the Steering Committee of the European Defence Agency (EDA), in the same format.

At the level of the EDA Steering Committee, defence ministers will approve the Agency’s 2021 budget and the 2021-2023 Tri-Annual Planning Framework and discuss the results of the first full cycle of the Annual Coordinated Defence Review Process (CARD), concluded this year.

With regard to the EAC meeting, the substance of the debates will cover two major and topical topics on the EU defence agenda, the actual launch of the Strategic Compass, a strategic guidance document in the field of the Common Security and Defence Policy, and the conclusions of the review process of The Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).

In the margins of the meeting, there will also be a video conference of EU defence ministers from the European People’s Party (EPP), where there will be an exchange of views on the European Union’s relationship with strategic and transatlantic partners and discussions will continue on the draft EPP strategy on the evolution of cooperation within the EU in the field of defence.
