A Met Police spokesman later said they had been called out following reports of a bang but found no weapon was used or that any criminal offence been committed.
SCENES of panic have been unfolding on London’s Oxford Street this evening amid reports of hundreds of shoppers running and screaming.
The Met Police told Sun Online that officers have been responding to reports of “gunshots” which later turned out to be false.
A Met Police spokesman later said they had been called out following false reports of shots being fired.
He said: “Local officers and armed officers have responded.
“There is nothing to indicate that shots have been fired or any criminal offences have occurred.
“A woman [no further details] has received non-life threatening injuries as a result of a fall.
“Officers remain on scene.”
